Just in: Levan restaurant is taking over Brick House Bakery in Peckham
After the surprising news that Brick House Bread will be closing both its bakeries in East Dulwich and Peckham which according to the owners Fergus and Sharmin Jackson were due to ‘crippling rents’ it’s interesting to find out who will be taking over the space… the Landlord.
The landlord of the space previously rented by Brick House Bakery is Levan a restaurant just next door run by chef Nicholas Balfe. Levan, a rather stylish (albeit a tad pricey) an all-day bar and dining space from the team behind Salon in Brixton has plans to open another style space next door called Larry’s which carries the slogan ‘open days, open nights’ - so we’re guessing some kind of bar bistro?
The name Larry’s might seem random but Levan is named after Larry Levan - the first superstar DJ who paved the way for dance music - and who the owners are big fans of. So there’s the link.
There has been lots of speculation around the way the ‘non-renewing of lease’ of Brick House Bakery - who has quite the fan club was handled by Levan. We have got in touch with Levan to see if they can shed some light.
I think some peeps may be a little disgruntled by this news but, let’s just thank goodness it’s not a Costa opening!
