A peek behind the scenes: all 7 Peckham Levels open for one weekend only!
Peckham Levels Open Studios 2019: For 3 days (31st May - 2nd June) Peckham Levels will be opening up all 7 levels for workshops, talks and DJ sets.
Peckham Levels is known as the buzzy multi-storey car park with the Insta-famous multi-coloured staircase! It’s home to a host of businesses from street food traders like Other Side Fried, Nadine and Hao Hao Chi, to the tropical-disco bar Near & Far, LEVELSIX yoga and the charismatic hair salon Cahoona’s. But did you know it also houses a whole bunch of local creatives?
Hidden beneath the closed lower floors of Peckham Levels are over 87 local creatives with everyone from artists, jewellery makers, fashion designers, photographers, to violin makers who call Peckham Levels home.
From the 31st May-2nd June Peckham Levels is opening up all levels to the public, offering a unique opportunity to have a peek inside members studios to find out what goes on behind the scenes within this exciting creative community that makes up the ‘Levels’.
As part of Peckham Levels Open studios 2019, all 7 levels of this once disused car park will be open for a weekend brimming with themed talks, performances, workshops, music, food, drink & installations. Makers will open their studio doors for a unique insight into their craft including darkroom studio Bright Rooms, multidisciplinary practice Playdate and ceramics artist Evelyn Pelayo.
All-female radio station Foundation FM will be airing live throughout the weekend. From Friday at 5pm there will be DJ sets from South London’s best DJs including Taliwoah, Tayylor Made and KG. On Saturday expect sets from Mr Play, Kamilla, Afrocheeks and Born n Bread's Abigur taking over the space well into the night. Enjoy listening to the sets whilst sipping on your favourite tipple. Local resident Lady Godiva bar will be serving craft beers at £2.50 a pint, whilst Near & Far bar will be shaking up £5 disco-inspired cocktails.
Of course, you will be able to grab a bite at one of the many food traders including old favourites like Kurdish food from Nandine and handmade Chinese dumplings from Hao Hao Chi. Peckham Levels will also be welcoming new food vendors to the ever-changing space - try Californian inspired burgers from Zephyr Burger or sample a few tacos from Mexican-inspired Hermanos Tacos House.
Visitors will have the chance to get involved in lots of free workshops like portrait drawing with Nicky Pasterfield and festival glitter workshops with Eco Glitter among other workshops from the members themselves. There will be a host of activities including a community dance showcase by The Movement Factory, paper printing and earring making masterclasses by 3rd Rail Print Space and £5 yoga classes from LEVELSIX Yoga. Make sure you don’t miss the talk from Peckham Vision, the campaign group behind sustaining the multi-story project, who will be uncovering the history of the multi-story carpark.
The Open Studios weekend will also see the launch of the Peckham Levels Members Shop on Level 5, where visitors will have the chance to purchase creative goods from the Peckham Level members - from prints and paintings to t-shirts and hand-made jewellery - including Enso, Tilly Sudsbury, Alex Poyner, IntoArt
Don’t miss this chance to have a sneak peek at the brilliant creative hub we have right here in the heart of Peckham. Peckham Levels Open Studios promises to be a fun, interactive and celebratory weekend of South London creativity.
