Take a look behind the scenes at Peckham Foodcycle
Last year we interviewed the lovely Jacqui Jacqui Hobson, a volunteer Co-ordinator Peckham Foodcycle -a charity on a mission to feed communities using surplus food. Foodcycle is a large charity that combines volunteers and surplus food to create delicious, nutritious meals for people at risk of food poverty and social isolation. We decided to pop down and help out.
The experience was truly inspiring. The volunteers make the space feel so inclusive, friendly and positive. They have many regulars who not only come in for a hot meal but also look forward to having a chat with other guests and volunteers - a lot of people suffer from loneliness. A weekly get together like this could be the difference between someone seeing or not seeing someone for a week.
The vibe is really fun, sociable and collaborative. Meals are served to gets at the table, Jacqui, the volunteer coordinator highlighted the importance of this. She wants the experience to feel less like a ‘soup kitchen’ but more an enjoyable and sociable evening for guests. It goes beyond just being a place to provide someone with a hot meal, it’s a safe space.
Peckham Foodcycle is held at All Saint's Church, Peckham every Wednesday and Saturday. Find out how you can help!
