Our Favourite new ticket office - COAL ROOMS

The new restaurant in the former ticket office of Peckham Rye station

The latest addition to Peckham's ever-expanding foodie scene is Coal Rooms. The guys behind Old Spike Roastery, Camberwell’s Spike + Earl, Peckham’s restaurant Aside and coffee-based charity Change Please, have set up shop in the 1930's wing of the former ticket office of Peckham Rye station. The Grade II-listed building has been beautifully restored into a relaxed café area that transforms into a bar come the evening. Tucked away at the back you will find a Victorian-tiled private dining room where you can expect to be served a meaty menu!

Coal Rooms has an on-site butchery with a menu that is focused on meats and fish cooked over their bespoke charcoal grill and oven 'Think Dry aged duck breasts, Mangalitsa cowboy steaks, Roasted cod heads, and 40 day-aged Dexter sirloin and rib' probably not one for the veggies and vegans amongst us...

The menu is broken down into dishes 'for one' like smoked ox cheek & tongue (£12) or Buttermilk fried mackerel, Aja Amarillo hot sauce, kewpie (£10). Or you can choose from a selection of small plates like Oatmeal, Peckham sake, pork crackling, burnt leeks and summer truffle (£6). From the 'sides' selection their 'Peckham Fatboy' roast potatoes, raclette, onions, beef fat mayonnaise (£5) is a must-have.

And to finish? Tiramisu with mascarpone, bitter chocolate and excess barista milk (from the café in the morning).

This is the kind of ticket station we don't mind queing up for!

Instagram worthy 1930's Victorian tiled toilets!
